Warp Speed Converter

Star Trek Warp Factors to Light Speed.

📜 The Origins

Converts Star Trek Warp Factors (both TOS and TNG scales) into multiples of the speed of light (c). It's the essential tool for every navigator on the bridge.

🚀 Master the Tool

Select your era (Standard or Classic) and input your Warp Factor. We'll show you exactly how many light-years you'll cover in a day, week, or month.

Engaging the Warp Drive

In the Star Trek universe, the Warp Drive uses dilithium crystals to generate a subspace bubble, allowing the ship to move faster than light (FTL) without breaking relativity.

The Scales (TOS vs. TNG)

  • The Original Series (TOS): Used a cubic scale. $Warp Factor^3 imes c$. Warp 9 was fast, but they often went faster.
  • The Next Generation (TNG): Recalibrated. Warp 10 is "Infinite Velocity" (occupying all points in the universe simultaneously).
  • * Warp 1 = $1c$ (Speed of Light)
  • * Warp 9 = $1516c$
  • * Warp 9.9 = $3053c$
  • * Warp 9.99 = $7912c$ (The curve is exponential!)

"Make it So"

Even at Warp 9, the galaxy is huge. Crossing the Federation (8,000 light years) would take over 5 years. That's why Voyager (70,000 light years away) was stranded for decades.

Pro tips
01In the TNG scale, Warp 10 is infinite speed (and might turn you into a lizard).
02Warp 9.9 is significantly faster than Warp 9.
03Scotty says he can give you more power, but he's usually lying about the time it takes.

The Fine Print (FAQ)

Can we go Warp 10?
Tom Paris did it in the Delta Flyer. He evolved into a hyper-evolved salamander and had babies with Captain Janeway. Let's not talk about it.
What is Transwarp?
Borg technology. It utilizes subspace corridors (like wormholes) to travel instantly, bypassing the Warp limit.
Is this real physics?
Miguel Alcubierre proposed a real 'Warp Drive' metric in 1994 that shrinks space in front and expands it behind. It's theoretically possible but needs negative energy.
